The Troublesome Trio:
Paul Manafort: Manafort faces 12 different charges ranging from one count of conspiracy against the United States, one count of conspiracy to launder, four separate counts of failure to report foreign accounts, along with a plethora of others. Manafort also served as the Chairman for President Trump’s campaign for several months and is currently under house arrest, surrendering his passport as well.
Richard W. Gates III: Not everyone with the last name Gates is a good guy. Richard Gates proves that by racking up a total of eight different charges consisting of two counts of conspiracy, three counts of failure to report foreign accounts, as well as other charges. Gates is well known for being a protégé of Manafort’s and also worked in the Trump campaign. Similar to his conspiring counterpart, Gates is currently also under house arrest.
George Papadopoulos: Out of all the people indicted, this one definitely has the best last name. Papadopoulos has already pleaded guilty in a secret court hearing on Oct. 5 to lying to the FBI. He also admitted to meeting with a third party who informed him about Russia having damaging information on Clinton.
White House Response (Or Lack Thereof)
It’s been mixed. At first, the White House attempted to downplay the news by stressing the fact that there was no direct collusion between Manafort and President Trump’s campaign. The White House then performed a fantastic display of mental acrobatics by claiming that they deserved some credit for the arrests.
Words of Wisdom from Our Commander-in-Chief
He ain’t happy. President Trump has stressed the fact that there was no collusion by taking to Twitter and making sure to post “NO COLLUSION” in all caps — eloquently said. He also made sure to tweet this as early as he possibly could, since that the tweet is time stamped at “7:28 am.” Gotta love a President whose so proactive about informing his constituents about his thoughts. He then proceeded to blame the ominous “fake news” for the confusion, reassuring the concerned citizenry with his explanation.
